Wildwood Newsletter Week 20: 2/10/19

“Our rapidly moving, information-based society badly needs people who know how to find facts rather than memorize them, and who know how to cope with change in creative ways. You don’t learn those things in school.” ~ Wendy Priesnitz

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Valentine’s Day is Thursday, and the kids would like to have an optional Valentines exchange…if your child chooses to, they can bring a Valentine for everyone else (or they could choose to not bring any). If they bring any Valentines, they would need to bring one for everybody, so no one is left out. (Please be restrained with candy/sweets, as many kids have food and dye sensitivities). Here is a list of kids:
    • Rowan, Emma, Addison, Finley, Sophia C, Sophia W, Owen C, Owen W, Joshia, Stathem, Eli, Bodhi, Inara, Ray, Qynn, Annabelle, Ezra, Banyan, Mason, London
  • Our next community meeting is Sunday Feb. 17 at 4pm! Since Sierra and Pia are here, and we don’t have a social gathering planned yet this month, we thought it would be fun to shorten our meeting a bit and add in a potluck/games night, if that worked for you all! So we could have our meeting from 4-5:30 (and would have sitters with the kids), then stay to eat and play together until 7ish. Please let us know what you think — hope this works for everyone!
  • The next fundraising/marketing meeting will be Friday, February 15 at 10:30am (online)…if you’d like to join the meeting, or if you can’t make the meeting but would like to help, please let us know! (Any level of involvement/contributing ideas is welcomed and needed!)
  • Please send any CLEAN recyclable items that you think would be fun to create with this week (cereal boxes, tubes of all kinds, cylinder containers with lids, drink carton lids, etc.) **please only send items that are clean, no food residue**

Hi everyone!

Looks like winter has come back, but the spring weather sure was nice while it lasted! Check out the photos below to see some of what we’ve been up to this past week. We soaked up the sun on Thursday at Rocky Knob…everyone seemed to love having a day to relax and play together outside. There was lots of reading in hammocks, drawing, chatting and connecting, biking and skateboarding, epic tag games, new games, and exploring. Monday and Tuesday were also so nice that we went on two long walks, played outdoor hide and seek in a forest clearing, played kickball in the field across the street, and did bullet journaling and reflection writing outside.

During Monday’s Change-Up meeting, one of the awarenesses brought up was about the presence of candy at Wildwood…because we value a healthy community and because some kids need to avoid candy due to food sensitivities and family restrictions/preferences, the group decided that we will try to keep candy bringing to a minimum at Wildwood…and if someone does bring candy they would try and keep it discreet and avoid sharing it around to lots of people. Please let us know if you have any input on this issue…if not, we’ll just plan to continue this practice as long as everyone feels like it’s working for the community.

We have enjoyed meeting a new ASU student volunteer, Louella, who will be spending Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with us this semester as part of a psychology service learning class. She comes from a homeschooling family, and has a lot of experience working with kids, and has been so fun to play with and get to know this week!

We are super excited to welcome our friends Sierra and Pia to Wildwood later this week! Sierra will be here Thursday, and both Pia and Sierra will be here Monday and Tuesday. (And they will come to our community meeting/potluck/games night on Sunday!)

I am feeling so grateful for all of you, and the support and positive energy that is so present in this group of families. Thank you for sharing your kiddos with us and for making Wildwood happen — we couldn’t do it without you!

Love,

Rebekah
